Westminster Children Step Up to Make First-Aid Kits for Refugee Families

Fourth and fifth graders in Westminster’s Outrageous Outreach children’s program are reaching out by making first-aid kits for refugee families.

“The kids like to be part of giving,” says Lucy Jefferies, Director of Children and Youth Ministries. “It gives them a sense of worth.”

Prompted by Sally Zeillmann, Assistant Director of Children’s Ministry, the youngsters made kits in February for refugee families. Church World Services loved the idea and asked the group for more kits. Outrageous Outreach was limited only by funds, but Westminster’s Outreach Committee stepped up, giving them $1,000 toward more kits.

Now the Outrageous Outreachers are back in action, bundling up ice packs, bandages, ointments, and other emergency items.

“When you learn about something, ask,” Lucy says. “We’ll figure it out.”
