Ernie Thompson

Pastor

Ernie began at Westminster November 30, 2015. He has over 27 years of experience with his most recent call being at First Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, NC, where he led that congregation for the last 15 years. Ernie received his Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary and his Doctor of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary. Ernie and his wife, Elaine, have two adult children, Megan and Richard.

Butch Sherrill

Pastor

Butch has been ministering in Greensboro for 30+ years and brings a variety of rich experiences to his work in adult ministry and to our church family. A graduate of Greensboro College and the Duke University Divinity School, he has served on the staff of Greensboro College, as associate pastor at West Market Street UMC, at Habitat for Humanity of Greater Greensboro, and as a UNCG campus minister. He and his wife Marian have two grown daughters and four grandsons.

Caroline Sell

Pastor

Caroline began at Westminster in July 2018. She has an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she studied Religious Studies and Spanish. Following undergrad, Caroline returned to her hometown and served on the youth ministry staff at First Presbyterian Church, Winston-Salem. She then attended seminary at Princeton Theological Seminary and earned two masters degrees - Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Christian Education and Formation. While at Princeton she met her (now) husband, Nate, who is also a Presbyterian Minister. Their hiking companion, Burley the Rescue Dog, rounds out their family.

Sam Perkins

Pastor

Sam joined the staff in January of 2014 to fulfill the role of pastoring our youth and their families. Sam obtained his undergrad degree in Communications from Indiana State University and worked in radio prior to entering full-time youth ministry in 2003. He attended Northern Seminary in the Chicagoland area, and served nearby in the Chicago suburb of Oswego, IL. Originally from Indiana, Sam and his wife Emily, who is from Minnesota, started their marriage and family there at Oswego Presbyterian Church; they have two daughters and a son.

Jonathan Emmons

Director of Traditional Music and Organist

Jonathan joined Westminster’s staff in 2014 and serves as organist and director of the Chancel Choir and Handbell Choir.   He is also Founding Conductor of the Greensboro Symphony Master Chorale and is currently completing doctoral studies in choral conducting at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where he has conducted the University Chorale, Women's Glee Club, Men's Glee Club, and the Opera Theatre chorus.

Jonathan holds a Master of Music degree in choral conducting from the University of Michigan and an undergraduate degree in organ from Bridgewater College.  He has a particular interest in the Christian contemplative tradition and completed the two-year Living School curriculum at Richard Rohr's Center for Action and Contemplation in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Clint Whitlow

Director of Music Ministries

As director of music Clint serves as director of the worship band, director of Youth band and director of Children’s choirs. Clint has a degree in Vocal Performance from UNCG and before joining  Westminster he served at West Market Street UMC as associate director of music and director of music at Epiphany Presbyterian Church. He’s performed with the professional choral group Bel Canto Company and with The Tred— a local rock band credited with two CDs of original music. Clint and his wife, Jane, have four children.

Lynn Turnage

Director of ADULT, Children and Family Ministries

Lynn’s passion is about including children in every part of church life and empowering parents to bring out the best in their children. She has an undergraduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in Recreation Administration, an M.A. in Christian Education from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education, and her Doctorate of Educational Ministry (Columbia Theological Seminary) in children, families and worship. Lynn has served other churches as well as been on staff at Montreat Conference Center. Lynn has two daughters and her mother lives with them.

Sally Zeillmann

Assistant Director of Children’s Ministries

Sally joined the Westminster staff in November 2018. She has volunteered with the children at Westminster for over ten years and is excited to continue this role as a member of the Children’s Ministry team. Sally and her husband, Peter, have two sons and a daughter.

Lucy Jefferies

Director of Youth MINISTRIES

Lucy has been in youth ministry for 30 years and joined the staff at Westminster in 2006. She graduated from Grimsley High School and has a BS in Education from Meredith College.

She is constantly reminded while engaging in the lives of Westminster’s youth that God is good, and she has hope today’s youth will embrace what it means to be a Christian in today’s world. Lucy is married to Davis, and they have two adult children.

Claire Utley

Director of Communications

Claire grew up in the PCUSA as a preacher's kid. She has a masters degree in Creative writing, over five years of diverse communications experience, and a passion for story telling—particularly the stories of the church. She lives in Greensboro with her significant other, Zach.

Ann Comfort

Director of Local Outreach

 Ann is passionate about connecting the talented people of Westminster with local organizations that could use a hand. Before joining the staff, she served the church in a variety of ways—as a congregational connections elder, a transition team member, and as the 2007 renewal weekend planning team chair. A University of Kansas graduate, Ann and her husband, Stu, have a son.

Betsy Fitzmaurice

Director of Congregational Connections

 Betsy grew up and attended school in Greensboro, where she has a degree in Nutrition Management from UNC-G. Previous experience in the travel industry and in career management have led her to this new and exciting opportunity at Westminster.  Biking, reading, and cooking are several of her interests. She is married to John and enjoys spending time at their cabin in the NC mountains.

Leslie Hennigan

Finance Manager

Leslie has been a Westminster member for 30 years. She’s volunteered in different areas at the church and previously worked in Children’s Ministries. A UNC graduate, Leslie and husband Tim have two sons and a daughter. Her interests include tennis, crafts, and her spoiled pug, Filbert.

Judy Phelps

DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATION

Judy worked at Westminster from 1994-2005 as an administrative assistant and later as the Director of Fellowship. She returned to Westminster in 2009 as Assistant to the Senior Pastor and has now taken on the role of Director of Administration. She and her husband Dave have two sons.

Aimee Bostic

Administrative Assistant

Aimee has been on staff since 1998, and her primary responsibilities include serving as membership secretary and maintaining a very busy church calendar.  Aimee and her husband, Curtis, have a son.

Emily Black

Administrative Assistant

Emily re-joined the church staff after a "seven-year maternity leave" to support the associate ministers and our youth team. Emily and her husband, Jeff, have four boys. They have been members at Westminster since 1994.

Brad Pollard

Facilities Manager

Brad started in March 2018. A father of two boys (18 & 14) Brad has worked in construction and maintenance his whole life. Brad was born and raised in Orlando, Florida and has a passion for motorcycles and custom bikes.

Lionel McCray

Custodian

Lionel handles the day-to-day upkeep of the facility. He sets up and takes down tables and chairs for numerous events and keeps our buildings clean and inviting.
