Milestones of Faith

At Westminster, we believe in nurturing faith every step of the way as children grow in their relationship with God. Our Milestones of Faith are designed to guide children from kindergarten through fifth grade, offering age-appropriate experiences that deepen their understanding of God's love, the Bible, worship, and community.

Each milestone marks a special moment in their faith journey, celebrated with families and supported by our church community. From learning to pray and understanding Bible stories to discovering the meaning of communion and engaging in worship, these milestones provide a solid foundation for a lifelong faith.

Kindergarten - Intro to Worship

First Grade - Communion

Second Grade - Introduction to Prayer

Third Grade - Books of the Bible

Our children are led in many ways by adults and youth who are visible examples of God’s love. The children are nurtured through faith formation, worship, missions, activities, trips, camp, play, and fellowship. These experiences offer our children a chance to wonder, to question, and to explore their faith. Spiritual practices and Bible stories help build a foundation for faith as children begin to discover who God has created them to be.

Children & Worship

We encourage ALL children to attend worship services. We want them to experience the joy and wonder of worship! Our weekly service includes a time for children. In addition, our 3rd – 5th graders may serve in worship as acolytes. Acolytes light the Christ candle at the beginning of worship to represent God’s presence among us. For information about being an acolyte, please contact Laura Alexander.

Faith Formation

We use Godly Play to help our children learn stories from the Bible and grow in their relationship with God. Godly Play offers a creative, child-honoring way of entering into and experiencing Biblical stories. Children who are PreK (4 years old) - 5th grade should be dropped off in Room 106 at 10am on Sunday mornings. After our Godly Play story, children will be escorted to their classrooms:

PreK – 3rd grade in Room 111

4th – 5th grade in Room 107

If you are interested in attending an adult class after you drop off your child, we hope you’ll join The Gathering in Room 103. This class is especially for parents of younger youth and children.  For more information about adult classes, visit Adult Faith.

Nursery

We provide nursery care on Sunday mornings in Room 113 for babies and children up to 3 years old. Our nursery is staffed by experienced, loving caregivers.

Evelyn Williamson is our Lead Caregiver in the nursery. Evelyn has taken care of our babies & toddlers since 1993! She has been a loving and consistent presence for generations of families at Westminster. We are grateful for the ways she has cared for our children and helped them to know the love of Jesus!

She also has worked as a teacher for the 3-year-old class at Cone Health Childcare for the past 25 years.

Music

JAMS (Junior Arts and Music on Sundays)

JAMS is a program during the school year that engages kids in singing, drama, movement, percussion and more! If you are interested in learning more, contact Clint Whitlow.

Outreach

Outrageous Outreach

Outrageous Outreach is an outreach and fellowship group for our 4th-5th graders. We meet each month during the school year for a time of learning, growing and digging deeper. We will participate in several outreach projects throughout the school year. Details for each event will be under upcoming events, in the weekly enews & listed below.

February 9 | 9:45am and 11:45am | Souper Bowl Sunday

The congregation will have a chance to pre-order soup (online sign-up coming soon). Outrageous Outreach will distribute the soup in the Fellowship Hall after each service on February 9th, so we need children who can help at 9:45am and/or 11:45am. Proceeds raised by the sale of our soup will benefit Pennies for Hunger.

Outrageous Outreach will set up, cook, and serve pancakes to the congregation. We need parent volunteers for this one AND electric griddles. We’ll meet in the kitchen at 4:00. We will serve starting at 5:30 and the Ash Wednesday worship service begins at 6:30.
