Music

Music at Westminster is varied, inspiring, and accessible to all. There are different styles of music to complement your worship experience. Music is taught to children, youth, and adults. Each summer Westminster offers a week-long, half-day Music Camp for children in kindergarten through 5th grade.

Traditional Music

At the Friendly Avenue campus we have organs in both the Sanctuary and Chapel. Traditional services are held in the larger venue, the Sanctuary, at 11 a.m. each Sunday. There are two concert performances: one at Christmas and the other at Easter.

In addition to a 50+ Chancel Choir, we periodically offer special musical contributions during worship from a variety of different musicians - trumpeter, vocalists, classical guitarist, harpist, cello, etc.

Members of the choir will be traveling to Scotland in June 2008 for its first European tour. Read about it in the May issue of WestminsterLife . There will be a commissioning service for the choir members on Sunday, June 1, at the 11 a.m. Traditional Service.

If interested in joining the choir or participating in special concerts, contact organist and choirmaster James R. Jones at 299-3785 or by e-mailing jimmy.jone(at)westpreschurch.org

Contemporary Music

Contemporary music is performed at both campuses and in all worship venues. A Worship Band provides music from contemporary Christian music to updated hymns. Musical instruments used during the contemporary services include: guitar, bass, percussion, piano and saxophone. Our strong vocalists perform songs by Alison Krauss, Eric Clapton, Elton John, and more. Members of the worship band are auditioned.

Vine Voices

Vine Voices is a collection of singers who enhance the worship experience at the Lake Brandt campus. No auditions, experience or music reading ability is necessary, just a love to make a joyful noise. Vine Voices sing once a month with the Worship Band and special services at the Lake Brandt campus such as the Christmas Drama. Rehearsals are every other Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Chapel at the Friendly Avenue campus. If you are interested, contact Betsy Hyslop at ext. 28 or betsy.hyslop(at)westpreschurch.org for more information.

Youth Music

These talented young musicians play at the Open Door worship service, a " for-youth, by-youth" service, as well as the weekly Faith Factor Fellowship and other special services.   Contact Director of Youth Music, Jimmy Jones at 299-3785 or e-mail him at jimmy.jones(at)westpreschurch.org

Children's Music

Children learn about God through many songs and singing is a part of the Children's Church Worship service on Saturday night and Sunday mornings. In addition, the children are taught and led in song during their regular classroom time.

Children's Choir

Childrens Kindergarten-5th grade are welcome to come make joyful noise in the Children's Choir. The choir meets each Wednesday from 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. during Westminster on Wednesday in the Fall and Winter. They preform a musical in the fall and in the spring. On Saturday, April 19, the choir will present "Daniel's Dangerous Dilemma" as part of the Saturday 6 p.m. worship service at the Friendly Avenue Campus.
