Childcare Volunteers needed by New Arrivals Institute

Westminster’s ministry partner, The New Arrivals Institute, is recruiting childcare volunteers from 9:30am to 12:30pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, for their infant and toddler class while their refugee and immigrant parents attend English class. Emergency Housing Network Volunteers

Representatives from six local refugee and immigrant assistance agencies and 13 local congregations, including Westminster, met recently about forming an Emergency Housing Network for refugees and immigrants. These meetings, convened by FaithAction International House, have outlined the dire need for emergency housing for this population and the reasons why. Currently, the Network is establishing a list of emergency housing options within places of worship, congregants’ homes, attached or detached apartments, in-law suites, rental property, etc. The time frame for emergency housing would be no more than three months and a memo or understanding would be established between all parties including a case management agency. Opportunities at Morehead Elementary

The Outreach Committee is actively recruiting volunteers for reading buddies and lunch buddies. Reading buddies listen to English Language students read in the morning one or more days a week. Lunch buddies meet with their student once a week for thirty minutes to provide a positive role model. September Back to School Food Collection

Westminster’s September 2019 collection is a Stock the Shelves Back to School Food Collection for our ministry partner Out of the Garden Project. Reusable bags will be distributed after worship on Sunday September 8, while supplies last, but any bag or box can be used. Please place donations of non-perishable food in the collection boxes outside the Fellowship Hall through the month of September. Protein items are always needed, and they request no glass containers.

Opportunities at Morehead Elementary

The Outreach Committee is actively recruiting volunteers for:

Listening to Morehead Elementary English Language students read one (or more) day per week from 7:30am—8:10am, Monday through Thursday.

Lunch Buddies who meet with their student once a week during the school year. The Lunch Buddy Program pairs a caring adult with a same gender student who needs a positive role model in his/her life. Lunch time at Morehead is from 10:45am to 1:15pm; lunch periods are 30 minutes daily.

Recruiting for Community Housing Solutions Ramp Build

On Friday August 23 and Saturday August 24 Westminster volunteers will build an accessibility ramp for a low-income Guilford County homeowner through Community Housing Solutions.  We are recruiting work team members for both days.  8 - 10 people ages 14 and up are needed each day from 8 am to 3:00 pm.  You are welcome to serve one or both days.  No experience is necessary but is welcomed.

Grimsley High School Mentorship

For the past three years, Westminster has partnered with Grimsley High School by providing mentors for their Success 101 program as part of our Outreach focus on Children in Poverty.  Last year Westminster had 14 adults serving as mentors for this innovative program and we're positive that number can grow in the years to come. Mentors and students are paired based on the mentor’s availability during school hours and meet weekly for one hour at Grimsley High School. If you would like to learn more and be included in an August interest meeting (date TBA) please write Grimsley on your Worship Response Card on Sunday morning or contact Ann Comfort ( in the Church Office by Monday, August 12.

Recruiting One Great Day of Service Project Leaders

SAVE THE DATE: One Great Day of Service is Sunday, September 29, 2019. 25 to 30 local service projects will be available for participation by the congregation. Please prayerfully consider playing an instrumental role in this annual Westminster event by becoming a Project Leader. For more information about the projects being developed and responsibilities, please contact Ann Comfort.

Volunteers Needed for Habitat Lunch

Westminster will provide lunch on Saturday, July 20 for all volunteers building Habitat homes in Greensboro.  Westminster volunteers are needed to prepare lunch beginning at approximately 8:30am in the Westminster kitchen for delivery to the job site by 11am.  This is a great opportunity for all ages!  To sign up or for more information, please contact Irene Linford, Westminster’s Habitat Lunch coordinator, at 336-662-9814 or Ann Comfort in the Church Office ( 

Volunteers Needed for Senior Wheels Medical Transportation Drivers

Westminster has an urgent need for additional Senior Wheels Medical Transportation Program drivers.  This program provides rides for ambulatory seniors age 55+ to and from non-emergency medical appointments in Guilford County.  On the second Thursday and fourth Monday of every month, a dedicated group of Westminster volunteers serves in this rewarding capacity.
