This annual 30 hour event is an opportunity for our youth to experience a small degree of hunger, homelessness, and serve the community.
Registration for the event starts at 4:30pm. Fasting will start following lunch at 1pm on April 5. We will break our fast with Communion and youth can be picked up on April 6, at 7pm.
The 30 Hour Famine is a national event that started over 27 years ago as a way for students to help save and change – people's lives. Our youth will gain a deeper awareness of the needs in our world and realize how they can make a difference by:
going without food for 30 hours,
sleeping in a cardboard shelter outside,
raising money to support hunger in Greensboro,
collecting canned goods for local area food pantries, and
serving others during our famine event.
Prior to the 30 Hour Famine, our youth are encouraged to raise money by seeking sponsors. All funds collected will be contributed to organizations that aid the hungry.
During the Famine, canned and dry food goods will be collected from the congregation and neighborhood surrounding Westminster. Also, participants will spend time during the event serving the community and experiencing just an edge of homelessness by sleeping outside in cardboard shelters.
