Mission Trip to Appalachia

Westminster puts its talents and faith to work by helping to address the housing needs of low-income families in Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Although the repairs and improvements that are made to homes make them drier, warmer, and safer places for their residents, the most significant transformation often takes place in the hearts of the volunteers and homeowners. Put another way, this ministry builds faith, strengthens relationships, and fosters a spirit of service in addition to building better housing for Appalachian families. Intergenerational and Adult (age 14 + ) teams are sponsored by the church.

Dates: April 14-17, 2011 and October 27-30, 2011

Where: Jonesville, VA

Age/ability: Participants must be 14 years old (parent or guardian should accompany minors).

Type of work: This home repair ministry builds relationships, faith and servanthood while working to make homes for Appalachian families warmer, safer and drier. No special building skills are required.

Participants will be responsible for paying for their own meals while traveling. Fund raising, by working on Westminster’s Mission Auction is expected.
