30 Hour Famine

February 23-24, 2008

The Youth of Westminster participated in a nationwide event to get a taste of what it’s like to be hungry while reaching out to others in need. The fast was from noon Saturday, Feb. 23, until 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 24. Middle School and High School students had separate activities during the Famine. Activities included a variety of service projects in our community, devotions, and interactive games that all serve to increase our awareness of those who are hungry. They built cardboard shelters to sleep in—yes, outdoors in February.

Westminster had 54 youth and 22 adults participate in the famine. We collected 628 pounds of can food for Greensboro Urban Ministry. Just over $5,000 was raised. Way to go youth!

The Youth don't just study the needs of the world. They don't just talk-the-talk, they are a hands-on, mission-oriented group.
