K - 5th Grade
Programs for Your Elementary School Child (K – 5th Grade)
This is a time of rapid growth—physically, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually. We provide age-appropriate activities focused on helping children explore their unique gifts, their relationship with God and their role in the community.
Worship is the centerpiece of everything we do! At Westminster we encourage children to participate in many ways.
- Parents of children are encouraged to sit near the front. Children can see better and participate more if they are seated near the action.
- Parents are also encouraged to help their children know what's happening by helping them follow the printed order of worship.
- Worship bags and other activities to do while listening to the sermon are found on the book cart outside the sanctuary.
- Children may attend the entire worship service with their families or leave the service after the Welcoming the Children time to go to Church School. Parents who want their children to attend Church School may fill out a Church School attendance card which they bring with them to Welcoming the Children time in worship. Children with these cards are escorted from there to Church School and parents may pick them up at the end of the hour.
After the Welcoming the Children time in worship, your child will be escorted to his/her Church School class where they will explore Bible passages and their meaning for us today. We recognize the importance of helping them develop their relationship with God while learning about the Bible, the Church and what it means to be part of a church family. We use Growing in Grace and Gratitude curriculum to guide our efforts, so what your child learns in Church School is often connected to what's being explored in worship services and in small groups throughout Westminster. The K-2nd grade classes get to experience Godly Play once/month also. Children also participate in service projects and can get involved in our music program.
