The J.O.Y. Luncheon is a monthly event that allows people 65+ to come for fellowship and to hear speakers on a variety of topics. The Luncheon is hosted by the JOY Team.

Offer Care

Many are blessed with the ability to care for others. This may mean knowledge in the medical field, but often times it is someone who can simply offer comfort to others through prayer, a letter, cooking a meal, or by spending time with people in need. The following is a list of Care teams that you can join. Contact Emily Black at 299-3785 ext 112 or e-mail her at emily.black(at)westpreschurch.org

Bereavement Care Team - provides meals, sends sympathy cards, offers hospitality during funerals and memorial services, and serving or cleaning up following service receptions. For more information, contact Emily Black at 299-3785, ext. 112.

Company of Intercessors - this prayer team receives list of weekly prayer requests and holds those persons and concerns before God in prayer. For more information, contact Emily Black at 299-3785, ext. 112.

Culinary Care Team - provides meals for individuals during a short-term critical need such as out-of-town death, sickness or injury. For more information, contact Liz Schumacher at (336) 855-7752

Health Team - provides health resources such as blood pressure screenings, and flu shots to the congregation. Read more about the Health Team.   For more information, contact Sue Collins at (336) 454-1230

Helping Hands Team - provides minor routine household assistance to elderly and disabled members. For more information, contact Emily Black at 299-3785, ext. 112.

Prayer shawl ministry - knit and pray a shawl according to a specific pattern to be blessed and given to those going through difficult times. For more information, contact Donna Weeks at (336) 854-1498.

Transportation Ministry - chauffers members from Friends Homes at Guilford and Friends Homes West to our Sunday 11 am Friendly Avenue services. We need volunteers to drive the church bus, which has the wheelchair lift. We also need companions to accompany our riders and offer assistance when needed. Contact Craig Siler at 202-2507.

Caring for Homebound

The following is a list of care ministries specifically for those who are homebound:

  • Homebound Communion Servers - bring communion, share news of the church, scripture and prayers.
  • Homebound Flower Delivery - when flowers are given to the church for anniversary, weddings, etc., the arrangements are made into several smaller arrangements and delivered to the homebound or the sick.
  • Men's Visitation Team - regularly visits men to share a conversation
  • Women's Visitation Team - regularly visits women to share a conversation
  • Transportation Team - Drives homebound members to services and church events
