Get To Know Us > Multi-Site Church Multi-Site ChurchWe are one church worshipping at two locations in Greensboro, NC. For years we have had multiple worship services and worship styles. Now we simply have additional campuses. Why we have two places and not one large building?Quite simply congregations can grow and shrink in size, buildings cannot. To be good stewards of the church funds, Session has decided to grow by making multiple worship venues. Having intimate worship services has been a hallmark of Westminster. So much so, when the congregation built the Sanctuary at the Friendly Avenue campus it was important that it be built in sort of a theater in the round where no one is further from the minister than they were in the smaller Chapel. Why these locations? In October 12, 1887, when a commission met and organized Westminster Church with 85 members, 80 of whom came from First Presbyterian Church in Greensboro. The church was located on the 400 block of Asheboro Street. Westminster remained on Asheboro Street until 1958 and replaced its original wooden church building there with a new building in 1913. In 1957, with the help of Orange Presbytery, land was purchased at what is now 3906 Friendly Avenue and the church, with a membership of 202, voted to build a new structure there in 1960. As the church membership grew so did its need for space. A new Sanctuary was added to the site and finished in time for Westminster to observe its 100th anniversary on October 12, 1987. In 2005, Westminster launched its first multi-site campus at the site in northwest Greensboro as many of its members already lived in the area. The Friendly Avenue site became Friendly Avenue Campus. In 2007, Westminster moved its northwest campus into a former church on Lake Brandt Road and the site became Westminster's Lake Brandt Campus. Are there additional campuses in the future? Will we build one large campus? Westminster is prayerfully considering where God is leading us in this decision.
